A passion for history
Thoresta Herrgård is surrounded by ancient monuments from the Stone Age and Iron Age. The estate’s original name, Thorlastum, probably comes from a combination of the names Thorleif or Thorlaf and the words stadhir or stadh, meaning ‘place’. The first documented use of the name dates back to 1349. During the 1500s the estate was owned by the de la Gardie family, with King Johan III having given the estate to his son-in-law Pontus de la Gardie. The original building was built in 1780 by Christer Posse, to the right of the present manor house. The main building was moved to Norrköping in 1835, where it was re-built stone by stone. As a result, one of the wings was converted into a new main building.
In more recent times Thoresta has been owned by the Wingårdh family and remained a private home until 1982, when it became a privately-owned conference hotel.
